MINDFULNESS

The concepts of "being" and "doing"

Στο mindfulness αναγνωρίζονται δύο βασικές ιδιότητες του νου: το «είμαι» και το «κάνω».

- When the human mind is in the state of "doing," it primarily focuses externally on goals, actions, behaviors, achievements, and problem-solving.

- The mind that "does" judges, condemns, approves, censors, creates, compares, categorizes.

- We need this kind of state to function practically in our daily lives, to do our shopping, prepare meals, clean the house, succeed in our work.

- The human mind is very good at conceiving an idea and then organizing the way to achieve it.

- The problem arises when there is no need for action, for any kind of deed, when the mind simply needs to relax, not be preoccupied with anything, neither achieving something nor solving a problem.

- In this case, the mind should enter a state of "being," simply existing peacefully.

- Most people find it difficult to "press the button" and let their minds calm down.

- The goal is not to forget or distract oneself. On the contrary, the goal is to focus on the here and now as it is, not as one would ideally want it or fear it.

Mindfulness

The basic characteristics of

Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as:

Paying attention:

- Intentionally, with purpose

- In the present moment

- Without judging and criticizing

- Mindfulness means being consciously present, living in the moment, being aware and perceptive of one's thoughts, what goes through one's mind, being aware of one's emotions, bodily sensations, as well as the surrounding space.

- Mindfulness, awareness, does not require us to stop thinking about the past or the future.

- It has to do with the ability to observe thought, emotion, the present moment, and to interrupt the unproductive and dysfunctional process of ruminating on negative thoughts and concerns about the past or the future.

- When we engage in such automatic negative thoughts, all we manage to do is lose our attention and focus on the present.

- Jon Kabat-Zinn is the doctor who introduced mindfulness into medicine and the Western world to help people better manage their lives.

- Even though the roots of mindfulness can be traced back to the teachings of Buddhism, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn initially introduced the fundamental aspect of mindfulness to the United States and the academic sphere without any religious elements. To mindfulness δεν έχει απολύτως καμία σχέση με οποιαδήποτε θρησκεία.

- Jon Kabat-Zinn initiated his research in 1970 at the Medical School of the University of Massachusetts, and since then, thousands of scientific studies have been conducted worldwide, providing evidence of the benefits of this practice.

Mindfulness is the fundamental human ability to be fully aware and present, to have perception and awareness of where one is and what one is doing, without reacting or feeling overwhelmed by what's happening around them.

It is the ability to direct one's attention to where one desires, to the present moment, without reacting to what is happening.

Mindfulness, or mindfulness, is a reminder not to fear when we don't know something, when we don't have all the answers.

It is a reminder to be open to the new and the change, and to feel comfortable with uncertainty.
